About Me

My names jonjoe, im a full stack engineer

I am a deeply passionate language agnostic software engineer & data junkie. Completely driven by my desires with a strong sense of loyalty and morality. My biggest passion is code & community; if you bump into me, i’m either at a hackathon jumping into the deep end, or i’m hacking on data/learning something new and shiney.

My philosophy is nice and simple:

  • Learn through play.
  • Being wrong is ok.
  • Always be irrationally optimistic.
  • Always stay uncomfortable.
  • Treat people like human beings.

I have spent the last 4 years developing myself, pushing myself hard and obtaining a wide array of skills and experience. I thrive off of pressure and live to learn. I’m a country boy fresh from the new forest and looking for new and exciting opportunities in the Central London area.

History

Indee Softworks - Founder, Director

Aug 2015 — present - (1 yr, 2 months)

As my freelancing work started to mount up and demand started to increase I started to pay other freelancers to work with me. These freelancers were always in the spotlight along side me and it was more of a partnership than typical contractor work. This gradually moulded into full time roles and we started to create an Identity. This identity became Indee and for a year and a half we worked on a myriad of different projects ranging from the massive bespoke applications to the tiniest brochure websites.

Indee has been a fantastic vessel for experience ranging from business practice, business scale, client relationship management, sales. The opportunities provided here have also allowed the development of much more advanced software engineering skills such as deeper experience in end to end application development, best practises, TDD, peer programming and teamwork.

Freelance

Dec 2014 — Aug 2015 (9 months)

After I left Novus Digital I felt it was time to strike out on my own. A vast majority of these projects came under non-disclosure agreements. I really enjoyed my time freelancing and I only really stopped as it evolved into what is now Indee.

Novus Digital - Lead Frontend Developer

Sep 2014 — Dec 2014 (4 months)

After I left Adido I joined a Poole based agency called Novus Digital. I was responsible for their entire frontend stack and was also responsible for managing a small team of contractors.

I made some significant improvements to this company's workflow that included:

  • Utilising GitHub as a company tool for source code management and project secure repositories.
  • Implementing modern frontend practises like using Browserstack for browser testing, auto-prefixing and code style rules.
  • Implementing Grunt to auto compile preprocessors, auto prefix, concatenate etc
  • Cutting development time down by creating an asset library and encapsulated code base of components we could use on different projects.

Adido Digital - Jnr Support Developer

June 2012 — Sep 2014 (2 yrs, 4 months)

Adido is a full service digital agency based in Bournemouth.

I started at Adido as an apprentice with no experience. I took to the work very quickly and, due mainly to some fantastic education and support, had gained enough experience to become a developer at Junior level in 4 months.

My role at this time involved supporting current and legacy systems as well as building new features for them. I was also heavily involved in client communication. The technology varied wildly and a gained a vast amount of experience with lots of different technologies.
